Meet Lani Malmberg
Browzing Pioneer & Land Steward
Lani Malmberg is the Executive Director and co-founder of the Goatapelli Foundation, and founder and co-manages Goat Green LLC, the nation’s longest-running professional prescription goat grazing company. With nearly three decades of experience, she is nationally recognized as a pioneer in targeted grazing for wildfire mitigation, invasive species control, and ecological land restoration.
Unlike production agriculture, Goat Green does not sell animals for slaughter; instead, goats are valued for their behavior, genetics, gut memory, and experience on the job. Herds ranging from 30 to 2,500 goats are strategically managed to meet landowners’ goals, from small urban parks to expansive rangelands.
For 29 continuous years, Goat Green has operated year-round, contracting with government agencies at every level, corporations, non-profits, Tribal Nations, and private landowners. Projects span 16 western states (including Maui) and address watershed restoration, invasive weed control, erosion, fire and flood mitigation, soil regeneration, reseeding, and oilfield reclamation.
Lani holds an AAS in Environmental Restoration and a BS in Biology/Botany from Mesa State College, along with an MS in Weed Science (Rangeland) from Colorado State University. She also served 17 years on the Board of Beyond Pesticides (formerly the National Coalition Against Misuse of Pesticides) in Washington, D.C., advancing national advocacy for sustainable alternatives to chemical-intensive land management. In 2019, she received the Earth Day Heroes Award in recognition of her leadership.
An experienced speaker and media resource, Lani is dedicated to regenerating soils, restoring native vegetation, and training a new generation of skilled graziers to carry this essential work forward.
